Christmas 2025: Community Action Making a Difference in Newquay

Over the Christmas period, local businesses, organisations, volunteers, and donors came together to support Newquay Foodbank, helping individuals and families facing hardship during one of the most challenging times of year.

Among those supporting the campaign, Elevate Offshore was proud to contribute both food donations and financial support, working alongside other local organisations to help meet a significant increase in demand throughout December.

This collective effort ensured that vital food provision and support services remained available during the festive period, when financial pressure, social isolation, and rising living costs often place additional strain on households across the community.

The Impact of Community Support

The Christmas 2025 campaign demonstrated the strength of collective action across Newquay and the wider area.

During December:

  • 15 local businesses and organisations came together to provide support
  • 4 tonnes of food were donated; this is equivalent to an average month’s distribution!
  • £14,600 in monetary donations were received, almost fully covering Christmas food costs for schools and families
  • 1,332 visits were made to foodbank sessions to receive food support
  • 306 children received food this Christmas through partnerships with local schools
  • 129 school hamper parcels were delivered to families in need
  • 112 hot meals were provided
  • 12 charity fundraising events took place

Through food parcels, hot meals, interim housing projects, cooking classes, and wider support services, this collective effort will help provide an estimated 62,400 meals to people across the community.

While the scale of need remains significant, every contribution, whether through time, food or funding, helps strengthen the collective response and supports the foodbank’s vital work all year round.

Looking Ahead: 2026 and Beyond

As demand continues, Newquay Foodbank is focused on strengthening long-term solutions and addressing the root causes of food insecurity.

Planned initiatives include:

  • Launching a social supermarket: designed to help foodbank users transition towards greater independence
  • Leading a Cornwall-wide project: supporting people in interim housing with improved access to food and wraparound services
  • Actively campaigning for change: challenging stigma across the food system through raw, honest and vulnerable community-led messaging

These initiatives aim not only to respond to immediate need but to create sustainable pathways forward for individuals and families across the region.

Foodbanks Are Not Just for Christmas

While the festive period brings increased visibility, the need for support remains throughout the year. Ongoing funding, volunteering and community involvement remain critical to maintaining core services and responding to rising demand.

Together, continued action can help ensure no one in our community is left to struggle alone at Christmas or any other time of year.
