Driven by a lifelong commitment to supporting seafarers and maritime communities, and to raising awareness of seafarer homelessness, Elevate Offshore is pleased to support Gordon Foot as he undertakes his latest endurance challenge, Nordic Challenge 2026: Inspiring the Maritime.
A highly respected Offshore Client Representative with more than 40 years’ experience across the maritime sector, Gordon has built a strong relationship with Elevate Offshore through his determination to make a positive impact beyond the workplace. This ambitious Arctic expedition marks the next stage in his ongoing efforts to inspire others, promote kindness and sustainability within the blue economy, and highlight challenges still faced by many seafarers across the industry.
In August 2026, Gordon will travel to Abisko, Sweden, just inside the Arctic Circle, before setting out on a demanding multi-day trek across Lapland. Crossing remote tundra, mountains, and valleys, he will move from mountain hut to mountain hut in search of shelter each night, before reaching his finish point in Narvik, Norway, around eight days later.
Although land-based, the challenge remains closely tied to maritime history and culture. The route follows historic Viking pathways and passes through regions shaped by fishing communities, seafaring traditions, and the legacy of the Battle of Narvik during the Second World War. Together, these influences underline the enduring link between land, sea, and those whose lives are shaped by them.
At the heart of the Nordic Challenge is a clear and important message: raising awareness of seafarer homelessness and the essential role played by charity-run seafarer centres and missions. Gordon’s daily search for refuge during the expedition reflects the reality faced by many seafarers who depend on these organisations for safety, support, and connection while far from home.
All funds raised will support the Queen Victoria Seafarers’ Rest (QVSR), a maritime charity providing vital services to seafarers, veterans, and those in need. QVSR operates a 175-bed rest home in London’s docklands, alongside seafarer centres at Tilbury, London Gateway, Felixstowe, Immingham, and Bristol. These centres provide safe spaces and essential welfare support for those who rely on them.
Coming from social housing and a challenging childhood, Gordon is keen to show that background does not define potential. By sharing personal stories and reflections throughout the campaign, he hopes to encourage others to broaden their horizons, explore careers at sea, and approach sustainability, kindness, and social responsibility within the blue economy with an open mind.
Environmental responsibility is central to the expedition. Gordon will operate under a strict leave no trace ethos, taking only memories and leaving only footprints.
Elevate Offshore is supporting Gordon’s Nordic Challenge 2026 by contributing towards his fundraising efforts. We remain committed to backing initiatives that promote compassion, sustainability, and positive change across the maritime industry.
You can follow Gordon’s journey and support the cause via the official fundraising page. Even a donation equivalent to the price of a cup of coffee can make a meaningful difference in supporting seafarers who rely on these vital services.
Everyone at Elevate Offshore wishes Gordon every success as he prepares for this remarkable challenge and looks forward to following his journey across the Arctic.
