Elevate Offshore Unveils Scholarship Winner for MSc in Hydrography at the University of Plymouth

Elevate Offshore is pleased to announce Tirren Ambroziak as the recipient of its 2025–2026 MSc in Hydrography scholarship at the University of Plymouth. Now in its second year, the scholarship offers full tuition funding, mentorship from Elevate Offshore’s experienced surveyors, and exclusive opportunities to connect with the wider hydrographic community.

A Strong Academic and Professional Foundation

At 27, Tirren already brings significant expertise to the programme. She earned a BSc (Hons) in Bioscience from Canterbury Christ Church University, graduating with a first-class degree and producing novelresearch on microplastics in the River Thames. She later completed an MSc in Oceanography at the University of Southampton, which deepened her understanding of marine systems.

Professionally, Tirren began her career as an Oceanographic Engineer at OceanWise, where she designed and installed environmental monitoring systems for ports, harbours, and government agencies worldwide. Her work on the UK National Tide Gauge Network contributed directly to national flood monitoring. Alongside this, she drove research and development projects with instrument manufacturers, represented OceanWise at international conferences, and helped establish the SMI Futures Council to support young professionals entering the maritime sector.

Finding a Path in Hydrography

These experiences inspired Tirren to pursue hydrography as a natural extension of her skills and interests.

“Working within ports and harbours over the past four years has shown me the breadth of roles in the marine space,” she explains. “The scholarship’s focus on supporting students who want to shape the future of offshore industries aligns perfectly with my aspirations.”

She first discovered the scholarship during the University of Plymouth’s open evening for hydrography, where the course’s strong industry links and practical emphasis immediately drew her in. Tirren believes this real-world focus will provide the skills and knowledge she requires to excel in the field and build on the foundation she has already developed through her studies and professional experience.

Looking Ahead to Offshore Challenges

For Tirren, hydrography represents both a technical challenge and a chance to contribute to safer, more sustainable offshore operations.

“I’m excited to work with autonomous and remotely operated vehicles in demanding environments, and to develop practical, innovative solutions during surveys. My long-term goal is to spend time offshore, gain my ‘hydrographer’s hat’, and eventually move into the design, marketing, and training of hydrographic systems.”

Guidance and Support

Elevate Offshore has designed its mentorship programme to help scholars build both technical expertise and professional confidence. Anthony Williams, Technical Manager for Survey at Elevate Offshore, says Tirren’s background and drive make her an ideal fit for this year’s award:

“We are thrilled to welcome Tirren as this year’s scholarship recipient. Her academic record, industry experience, and clear commitment to advancing offshore hydrography stand out. This scholarship is about more than funding — it’s about offering real-world insight and support that will help her succeed in the next stage of her career.”

Building the Next Generation

With this year’s award, Elevate Offshore is proud to support Tirren on her journey into hydrography. Her drive and experience embody the values this scholarship was created to foster, and we look forward to seeing her impact on the offshore industry in the years ahead.

Last year’s recipient, Hans Elyar Ebrahim Schaeper, has since completed his MSc and begun his career as a Trainee Hydrographic Surveyor with Reach Subsea. To read more about his journey and how the scholarship helped him take that next step, click here.
